A British technology company, ARM Holdings, has recently created a new computer chip which will connect traffic lights to the Internet.
These new chips called Flycatcher, run on low power and they can be used in smartphones and tablets too. ARM Holdings predicts that by the end of this decade, almost every object that we use in our daily life will be connected to the Internet. And this chip will help in making it possible.
These chips were recently tested at a parking lot in San Francisco where motorists could identify the free parking spots via their mobile phones. They were also able to reserve the parking stop and pay for the parking via Internet without having to pay the actual change.
Imagine this chip sprawling to other fields and making our lives better. An Internet-controlled traffic lights system looks like an easy and the next possibility. If these chips are installed in all the traffic lights, one can easily control them.
This chip is basically designed for devices / gadgets that usually run on an alternative power supply like batteries. The official name for this chips is Cortex-M0+ and let’s all hope that they somehow make their way into all the devices that we deal with in our daily lives to make it easier for us.
