We are the most technology obsessed lot in the universe. Even if it were proven that we aren’t the only ones alive, we would still hold that spot. That obsession is even carried over to our modes of transport. We want them as technologically advanced as they come. From a car that can take on an army to the fastest one ever made to the hybrid over 100 years old, we showcase our obsession with speed, cars and technology.

Cadillac One or The Beast
_________________________________________________________________________________
classified 300x209 Four most technologically advanced cars in the worldYou can practically start a war with this one and even win it. It looks like an ordinary Cadillac limo from the outside but that’s where the similarity ends. It is a tank in a car’s body. The entire car is fitted with military grade armor five inches thick, the door panels are as heavy as a Boeing 757’s doors, the fuel tank is explosion resistant and the outside crowd can only be heard via speakers. It can survive any biochemical attacks and even has its own oxygen supply. It can fire a salvo of multi-spectrum infrared smoke grenades for defense against guided–missiles and allow the driver to navigate under these conditions through an enhanced video system and night vision. If you get surrounded by a mob, gas ‘em, as it can even fire tear gas. Other features include a mobile command center, a shotgun and secret agents. Oh, and you’ll have to be the president of The US to get one of these, so start your campaign now.

Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 Super Sport

Veyron SS 1 300x200 Four most technologically advanced cars in the worldNow the fastest car in the world, again, the Veyron reclaimed the crown after clocking 268 mph in August, 2010. Of course it can’t fire smoke grenades or tear gas mobs. But making the fastest car in the world requires some serious technology. Bugatti fused two Audi V8s to make the W16 engine and then gave it four turbo-chargers for that extra power. To keep things in the engine bay cool, they gave it ten radiators. The brakes are carbon ceramic, specially designed to decelerate from 400 Kph to 0 Kph in ten seconds. The bigger of the two spoilers also acts as an air brake with some serious stopping power, completely retracting when required and making the car as slippery as a fish. The tires and transmission are specifically built to handle that power and the suspension lowers automatically once you cross 250kph. The gear changes are electronic and lightning fast. Plus, there are two Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) and Electronic Stability Programs (ESP) to avoid locking tires and to keep the car ‘un-dramatic’ at even 400kph. All of this in a car with leather seats, air conditioning and even a CD player. This car really is an engineering marvel of our time. Truly, it is a jet fighter among propeller planes

Maybach 62 Landaulet

Maybach Land 300x200 Four most technologically advanced cars in the worldIf you are the sort of person who enjoys being driven around in supreme luxury but wants to get a bit of sun now and then (and have $1.3 million lying around), buy one of these, the Maybach 62 Landaulet. The epitome in luxury (and hi-tech) has now gone topless. Well, sort of. The engine is a bi-turbo AMG 6.0 L V12, one of the most advanced of its kind. In terms of technology it gets Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC). It is able to modulate the brake pressure required for each individual wheel with greater precision and deliver the brake pressure more quickly. Sensotronic Brake Control also enhances the operation of other safety-related systems such as ESP and ABS. The AIRMATIC dual control air suspensions provide extra comfort and a smoother ride. Even the headlamps move along the steering wheel to illuminate corners. Its parking sensors go berserk if you get too close to a car. The air-conditioning works on solar panels and adjusts the temperature automatically depending on the temperature outside. Then there are the reclining, ventilated massage seats, foldable tables, state of the art entertainment system, self closing doors and the list goes on. But the main feature of this car is the semi-automatic reclining soft top roof that lets you enjoy the weather, be a part of the outside world, get a massage and that too in the middle of a video conference. So, how about those $1.3 million?

Lohner Porsche Semper Vivus
_________________________________________________________________________________
semper vivus 300x199 Four most technologically advanced cars in the worldYes, yes, we know that this car isn’t exactly space-age. The Lohner-Porsche Semper Vivus, literally meaning “always alive,” was the first hybrid car ever made, 111 years ago. Conceived in the late 19th century by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche (the founder of Porsche) and Jacob Lohner, it ran on a series hybrid layout, which means that the internal combustion engine powered the wheel hub mounted electric motors in the 19th century. And we called those folks old fashioned. The advantage was that it didn’t require a transmission which saved weight and had no unnecessary complications. This technology is the basis of the electric diesel trains we’ve seen and is the same technology that NASA used on the Lunar Rover almost 100 years later. The technology won Porsche prestigious engineering prizes, including Austria’s National Gong. Given that Porsche was up against greats like Robert Bosch, Karl Benz and Rudolf Diesel, that was no small feat. That’s why even though this car is older than our grandmothers, we think that it deserves a spot here.

So, being obsessed isn’t so bad after all now, is it?
