That miracle cure to cut back all those years from your face still eludes you. But there seems to be a new ray of hope. A miraculuous “fountain of youth” pill may well be on its way to diminish all your advancing years and give a new healthier you.

Suprisingly, a new study on mice reveals that clearing away the body’s old “senescent” cells can help delay the aging process and eliminate many age-related ailments. These “senescent” cells stop functioning with age and start affecting other healthy cells in the body. Scientists at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, US, have found a way to flush out such senescent cells from genetically engineered mice. This resulted in improved muscle function and delayed tissue degeneration. This finding might have huge implications for us and it might now be possible to slow the signs of aging in humans.

The research team headed by Darren J. Baker and Jan M. van Deursen found that the non-functional senescent cells remain in the body and the proteins they release, damage neighbouring cells and even cause inflammation. However, old-age symptoms like deteriotation of muscle tissues, loss of fat tissues under the skin, and formation of cataracts in eyes were delayed to a large extent with the removal of these cells with drugs. But it’s not yet time for you to eagerly pop this magical pill and get instant youth. A lot of research has to be undertaken before such a scenario comes true and all you can do is keep your fingers crossed till such a time comes.
