Will you be surprised to meet a sales rep who is invisible? Well, this new innovative salesman not only shows you how you would look in a certain outfit but also the accessories that go with it. Meet the latest in retail tech – the RFID smart hangers from Team Lab. In case you are window shopping in the Shibuya ward of downtown Tokyo and happen to walk into the 109 Men’s departmental store, you will get to see them in action, cajoling you in their own creative way. These smart hangers from the Japanese company Team Lab, herald the new digital age in your shopping experience.
Once you pick up a garment, the hanger sends signals that display certain images and videos on the digital screens installed above the products. The trick behind these normal looking hangers is an embedded RFID chip in the larger-than-normal middle area. As soon as you pick up one, the smart chip sends signals to a computer, which is hooked up to a number of large screens scattered all over the store. So when you pick a corduroy trouser, the screen above you will display fashion shoot pics of the trouser and even other items that can go with it. The hangers are even programmed to change display lighting and background music to match the garment.
This new technology has been taken up by the Vanquish men’s line at the 109 Men’s store and more than just being interesting, the RFID hangers also help to keep a track of the items on display along with the sales made. This can also make your shopping experience less obtrusive, as you won’t have a nosey salesman breathing down your neck when you are out to pick a new scarf any more.
